What is quantum cryptography and how does it differ from traditional encryption?

Quantum Cryptography or quantum encryption uses the laws of quantum mechanics (physics) to secure and transmit data. The security is not based on mathematical complexity but on fundamental physical principles.

Why is quantum communication important in today’s cybersecurity landscape?

In today’s cybersecurity world, quantum communication is becoming increasingly important because it can protect us from the threat of powerful quantum computers, which will be able to break today’s encryption systems.

The quantum computers will use algorithms like Shor’s Algorithm to efficiently break the current public-key cryptographic schemes that secure nearly all of today’s internet, financial transactions, and digital identities.

The importance is amplified by the future quantum decryption threat, where hackers can steal encrypted data today and store it, knowing they can decrypt it easily once a powerful quantum computer is available. Quantum communication solutions provide a long-term defense against this threat.

How soon will quantum computing impact data security?

QKD systems are one of the most mature applications of quantum cryptography, which are specialized hardware systems that use quantum channels to generate and distribute random keys between the two communicators with unconditional security.

The advantage of QKD is that the security of the key is based on physics, not mathematics.
